Automakers are kicking it into high gear trying to be the first to lay claim to the environmentally friendly car market.

Ford has pick-ups fueled by ethanol made from corn.

BMW's new 7 Series can switch from gas to hydrogen with the push of a button.

But widespread sales of eco-cars are a ways down the road. Ethanol is made mainly in the Midwest, limiting E-85 sales.

And with hydrogen pumps in the country, it may be 10 years before hydrogen powered cars take off.

Phil Lebeau takes a look at the progress automakers are making in getting more environmentally friendly cars out on the road.
