With spring comes rain and on March 26, 1913, the Miami River in Dayton, Ohio, was cresting eight feet higher than the last record crest.

The resulting floods killed more than 400 people and did 147 million dollars in damage.

It is considered the second most deadly flood in U.S. history.

On March 27,1890, a tornado struck Louisville, Kentucky, killing 78 people.

It was part of a major outbreak of twisters over the Ohio Valley.

44 people were killed when the Falls City Hall was struck, making it one of the highest death tolls on record in a single building from a tornado.

74 years later, one of the most powerful earthquakes on record hit Alaska.

Measuring 8.6, the quake devastated many of the Alaskan coastal towns and villages.

Powerful tsunamis generated by the earthquake affected a large area of the Pacific and killed more than 100 people.

The ground shook for five minutes, causing building facades to crash into the street.
