The Village Green Apothecary in Maryland is bringing some fresh air into its store. What owner Marc Isaacson has done is to pay a windpower association called Native Energy a yearly fee to replace the traditional electricity the shop uses with wind power."On the National Energy Grid, we're taking our portion and its being shifted to wind power instead of traditional fossil fuel," explains Isaacson. It's on offset, meaning the wind energy doesn't actually come into the shop but is replaced at the power supply, reducing the amount of carbon dioxide produced.Native Energy is run by a consortium of tribes from the Great Plains who use money to fund more windfarms throughout the country to start replacing the use of fossil fuels.Wind power is a natural for the Village Green Apothecary.More than a drugstore, the Village Green is a health and wellness center that offers a wide array of herbal supplements, organic products and a wide array of books. Now that the shop is going green, it's encouraging its customers to do so as well. Pamphlets about buying wind energy are included in the Essentials To Healthy Living section. And books on the environment are prominently displayed. Isaacson wants customers to realize they can make a difference -- it's not that complicated. To watch the video, please click the play icon in the video box to the right.
